  12.                     IBM ASSUMES OPENDOC FOR WINDOWS DEVELOPMENT
  13.                CI Labs Sponsors Agree on New Approach to Bring Windows Version to Market

  15.           SOMERS, N.Y., Oct. 30, 1995 . . . IBM today announced that it has
  16.      assumed responsibility for the development and marketing of OpenDoc*
  17.      for Windows** 95 and Windows NT.  OpenDoc is a robust component
  18.      architecture that delivers significant benefits to application
  19.      developers by evolving applications to a component-based, integrated
  20.      structure.

  22.           Based on IBM's current development schedule, beta of the OpenDoc
  23.      for Windows 95 and NT software development toolkit will be delivered
  24.      in the second quarter of 1996, and final versions would be delivered
  25.      in the third quarter of 1996.

  27.           "OpenDoc is a powerful tool for developers creating
  28.      cross-platform, integrated software applications," said John Slitz,
  29.      vice president, object technologies marketing, IBM.  "The CI Labs
  30.      sponsors have discussed the most effective use of our resources to
  31.      bring OpenDoc for Windows to market quickly and feel IBM's current
  32.      work with OpenDoc for OS/2 and AIX lays the groundwork to develop the
  33.      Windows platform for OpenDoc.  When you include Apple's work with
  34.      OpenDoc for Mac** OS, developers will truly have a powerful
  35.      cross-platform offering."

  37.           Novell, a committed sponsor of OpenDoc, will assist IBM in making
  38.      OpenDoc for Windows a success.  IBM will centralize all of its OpenDoc
  39.      development -- for Windows, OS/2 and AIX* -- in Austin, TX.

  41.           The early release code of the OpenDoc for OS/2 tool kit has been
  42.      distributed to over 20,000 OS/2 developers with more than 50
  43.      independent software vendors (ISVs) developing components with
  44.      OpenDoc.  A pre-released version of OpenDoc for AIX will be available
  45.      on the Developer Connection CD (DEVCON) in November 1995.

  52.      applications, including PerfectOffice** and NetWare**."
